So last week I finished up my Gear Vendors Overdrive and GForce crossmember.
This went on my TH350, and 12 bolt rear with 3.08 gears with a posi unit...my driveshaft went from the stock length of 55.5" (center u-joint to center u-joint) to 41" (center U-Joint to center U-Joint)
It came out excellent and works flawlessly.
Installation note:
1) on the TH350 you will remove the stock speedometer gear and clip on the shaft
2) on the GFORCE crossmember I had to use the extra spacers to widen it fully so it would land in the stock bolt hole location on both sides (note: you will use the inner holes that the GFORCE crossmember lines up with rather than stock outer ones that the stock crossmember uses, there are two in between the stock ones)
Special note: I had to take a large crescent wrench and slightly bend down the frame at the very front on the passenger side in order to get the new crossmember up in the channel...I then just took a mallet and re-straightened and no one would be the wiser...YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SEE THE LIP BENT DOWN IN ONE OF THE PICTURES.
3) wiring is really simple...I ran into a issue with dancing lights between the Red and the Green and Gear Vendors sent me a new MSD control box (yes MSD makes their control boxes for them now), new wire harness, and speed sensor (which goes on the speedometer cable to send the speed signal). They didn't want to take any chances so Mike at GV sent me everything and I sent the other stuff back so they can test them and find out which was the culprit...EVERYTHING IS WORKING FLAWLESSLY! and it is awesome to.
4) my Gear Vendor OD has a deep sump so it took 1.3+ quarts to fill up completely.
5) I had to cut my H-Pipe because right in the center I had a v-band clamp and it just was too close and would tap the GV and make noise, so I cut it and put two 360* clamps and another piece of pipe temporarily, which surprisingly isn't leaking.
My plans for this is to have my exhaust shop install a v-band clamp on each side so I can remove the center section and drop either side of exhaust piping or mess with the GV if needed.
6) I went ahead and installed a new speedometer cable since mine was 54 years old...I did not know that there was so many selections...mine turned out to be 60" but purchased a 68" based on research (these come in all lengths 60", 66", 68", 100" etc. - my 68" turned out to be perfect too - Purchasedfrom Summit Racing)
7) GROUND - Ground is highly recommended to come straight from the battery (this is from talking directly with GV's
8 - on the GV solenoid and speedometer speed sensor it DOES NOT MATTER which wire goes where (just an extra bit of information.
9) on the GFORCE crossmember I also used a short polyurethane transmission mount (Energy Suspension part# 3.1158G 1.65" height, rather than the 2"+ stock height polyurethane unit)
10) I also made a small control box for my switch and Red and Green LED lights and painted it to match (see picture)
I think that is it, if I remember anything else I will add it and edit it.
If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me.
Thanks,Matt
