Transmission Adapter Plates

Transmission Adapter Plates Simplify Swaps

Z32 LS Conversion Kit / Z33 LS Conversion Kit / GM K Series Cummins Kit

Transmission adapter plates are a key component of any transmission swap. Although each component of a swap is important, the adapter plate is vital to the success of the project. During a conversion project, the engine and transmission must be joined. When the chosen combination is not offered from the factory, an aftermarket adapter plate completes the connection.

The most common adapter plates on the market are for an LS swap. These parts allow the versatile and popular LS motor to work with a variety of transmission options in almost any car. However, nearly any motor and transmission combination can work using an adapter plate. For the car enthusiast, it provides endless options.

Choose Professionally Designed Transmission Adapter Plates

Even though some mechanics construct their own, using adapter plates professionally designed and manufactured make the process faster, easier, and gives more reliable results. Moreover, it takes the guesswork out of an already complicated and sometimes time-consuming procedure.

Although available individually, adapter plates are often included as part of an Adapter Kit. Different kits offer varying combinations of components such as flywheels, mounting hardware, motor mounts, crossmembers, and more.

Lower the cost of your next build

Generally, a motor swap from a specific manufacturer necessitates a transmission from the same manufacturer, which can be costly. As an example, if a 2JZ swap or LS swap required the use of a V-160, R-154, or T-56 magnum transmission, the cost could easily exceed the price of the motor itself. Meanwhile, an adapter plate, like those from G Force Performance Products, gives you the ability to choose from other more affordable transmission options. For the budget-conscious mechanic or do-it-yourselfer, it is well worth it. And, as a bonus, the “bolt-on” design of the G Force adapter plate helps save time. Currently, G Force offers adapter plates and kits for Cummins, LS, LSX, and Vortex motors and a variety of transmissions.

LS to Z32 and Z33 Adapter Kits

The LS to Z32 or Z33 adapter kits are very popular. They are ideal for a 300zx or 350z LS swap. However, our customers have completed dozens of other builds for Mazda, BMW, and even Lexus platforms. If you’re curious about what makes the Z32 and Z33 transmission so appealing, check out our related article.

G Force Z32 Adapter Kit with transmission adapters

The Z32 LS Conversion Adapter Kit

    • 3/8 Steel Powder Coated Adapter Plate
    • Pilot Bushing Adapter
    • Custom Steel Flywheel
    • Mounting Hardware

Additional details about the kit:

    • Includes stock 300zx pilot bushing and machined steel adapter.
    • 300zx Starter mounted on side of transmission.
    • 300zx pressure plate/clutch and throw-out bearing. Compatible with naturally-aspirated or twin-turbo pressure plate/clutch discs.
    • Incompatible with twin-turbo Z32 transmissions. The twin-turbo Z32 has a much larger bellhousing, which places the starter farther from the flywheel ring gear. As a result, the starter will not properly engage with the flywheel.

Z33 Adapter Kit with trans adapter

The Z33 LS Conversion Adapter Kit

    • 3/8” Steel Powder Coated Adapter Plate with a powder-coated finish
    • Hi-torque Starter Adapter
    • Use current Hi-Torque Mini Starter or purchase one separately
    • Custom Steel Flywheel
    • Pilot Bushing Adapter
    • Mounting Hardware

Additional details about the kit:

    • Bolt-on flywheel—no adapters or spacer bushings.
    • Flywheel is a billet steel kit, weighing about 30 lbs. Some conversion kits use lighter aluminum flywheels. However, 30-pound steel wheels are best for 90% of all available builds.
    • Flywheel is compatible with any OEM or aftermarket 350Z clutch assembly.
    • No transmission modifications required.
    • Some heavy wall bellhousings may need a minor clearance trim for the flywheel ring gear. Simply polish away .06 inches over a small area the size of a stamp.
    • Stock 350Z pilot bushing with a machined steel adapter included. The LS block requires the removal of a small casting boss to create clearance for your high-torque starter. It’s a minor modification that can be done with a hand grinder. Instructions included with purchase.

At the same time, even with the Z32 or Z33 LS Conversion Adapter Kit; LS conversions are different for each application. It is not a clear-cut process. Every component that makes the motor run may need to be modified for the new platform.

Swapping a Cummins Diesel Engine

A Cummins conversion involves swapping a Cummins diesel engine into a different vehicle. Because of the increase in fuel efficiency and the durability of the vehicles these kits are embraced by car enthusiasts. Swapping a Cummins engine into a Ford or Chevrolet are so popular, they have been given their own nickname. When you see the term “Fummins or Cummins,” these conversions are being discussed.

That's why G Force sets high standards to guarantee that our adapter plates precisely connect your engine to your chosen transmission. Specifically, our Cummins adapter plate is made from a single piece of solid billet aluminum to ensure unparalleled strength.

As an example, the GM K Series Cummins Kit includes:
