Description

  • Fits GM B-Body Models: Bel-Air, Caprice, Impala, Biscayne, Le Sabre, Catalina, Bonneville, Delta 88, Starfire, Delmont, Grand Prix, Wildcat, Executive, Dynamic 88, Jetstar 88, Kingswood, 
  • Fits Years: 69-70 
  • Fits Transmissions: TH400 Short Tail, TH375, 2004R
  • A new transmission mount is recommended.
  • For the 1969-1970 B-Body frames the distance between the crossmember frame mounting holes is 54". To ensure proper crossmember selection be sure to measure your frame before you order. 
  • Note: 1969 – 1970 B-Body must have the OEM factory 2 sets of crossmember mounting angles on each frame rail.  This application will utilize the rearward set.

For vehicles originally equipped with 3/8″ crossmember bolts, open existing holes on the frame to 1/2″. If you prefer to retain 3/8″fasteners, upgrade the installatin hardware to Grade 8 bolts and hardened flat washers.

Some minor contact between the floorplan and the crossmember may occur due to body bushing settling and deterioration, or a bowed floor pan. Usually, this is not a problem. A hydraulic floor jack with a wood cushion will correct a bowed floor.

Good fitment, but less rigid than OEM

I installed this G-Force crossmember on my 1969 Chevrolet Impala with a TH400 and a 598ci big block. In terms of fitment, no issues: it aligns perfectly with the B-Body chassis, and the extra clearance it provides is a real advantage for routing 3-inch exhaust pipes.

However, I’m a bit disappointed with its rigidity. The original crossmember is completely stiff, whereas this one has some flexibility. I’m not sure yet what the consequences will be on the car’s behavior, but I would have preferred it to be as rigid as the OEM part.

It’s still a good product for those needing extra clearance under the car, but if rigidity is a priority, this is something to consider.
